Titles according to your visits

Post by Gavin Trott »

Hi All

Playing around with giving people ranks according to their number of posts.

You'll see them under each registered person's name.

Happy to have your ideas for other versions/names, post away and if we can agree, I'll change them.

Hi Fearless Dictator,

Not sure if I like the idea of these tag lines that are used on a number of the forums. IMO they appear a bit tacky and almost create a "class" like atmosphere.

As to my tag line, over the last few weeks I have "had a life" outside wine and I don't (four letter words) like it! Wine is more fun than renovating a shop and being a manager, plumber, tank installer, electrician, architect, painter, floor tiler, plasterer etc; even though I employed a heap of those people I still wound up getting involved in all aspects myself.

Its a bit like the difference between the pig and the chook in relation to breakfast, the chicken is involved in producing the egg but the pig is committed.
Cheers

Of course, they could be a learning tool. How about
Piccolo
Half Bottle
Bottle
Magnum
Jeroboam
etc
etc
Nebuchadnezzar

with pretty big gaps from one to the other?

cheers,
Graeme

Ric

You may be right, its why its taken me so long, didn't want to copy other forums, didn't want to be tacky, tried to think of clever ones, (but clearly lack the necessary mental ability :? )

Some folks like them, and at the very least, for those seeking advice, it let's them know who've been around for a while and will, most likely, know the answers and be willing to post.

Love any other views, or ideas for the names?
regards

I haven't posted that much, but isn't the info that you want to express i.e. experience of a poster, conveyed by the other info that is shown i.e. number of posts & date joined? I agree with Ric, I think it implies a hierarchy which I don't think is necessary.

Gavin,

My vote is to ditch it, the number of posts is already displayed, that's enough for me.

Life's too short to drink white wine and red wine is better for you too! :-)

Actually, its no indication of how long you've been here just how many posts you've made on this new forum with no indication of quality or length of the posts.

Being someone who posts infrequently but has been here forever, it doesn't really show that.

If you're going to do it though, I quite like Graeme's suggestion.
Cheers,
Kris

I like Graemes idea but in reverse order...eg start at the top and work your way to becoming a piccolo :)

Agree with the concerns about hierarchy - is there any way to just have it in the WAI section? Possibly of more relevance there.

Awww... Thats a shame. The way I saw it is that the idea behind it is not to classify people but to encourage people to post, if people don't post to the forum it dies - simple as that.

Perhaps we should all try to help this forum grow and suggest ideas that may encourage people to post?

These types of forums are healthy expressions of peoples opinions (whether right or wrong) and should be encouraged to grow, so lets get behind Gavin and think up some ideas - What would encourage you to post more (besides free wine :) ) !!
Cheers

I can see both points of view.

markg, I whole heartedly agree that posting is the lifeblood of the board. But I can also see the implied hierarchy with such labels.

Without such debate the board would not have received these last 20+ posts. Ironic?
Ciao,

Hmmm.. What sort of discussion is this ? A nested or an embedded conumdrum ?

As it is now, number of posts and date joined is all that is necessary in my opinion. Cheers,

Speaking of which Davo, this semi-life-of-leisure I lead these days is fantastic for putting crays and dhufish on the table - perfect day in MR today! Sem Sav weather I reckon.

Hi all,

A quick look-in from Burgundy and found this on the forum. Gavin, even if youtried to make it a quality and not quanitity indicator it would be even more snooty. Love it the way it is. GraemeG's idea, could it be used for something else?

regards,
simm.

Bad idea, the forum is trying to encourage people to contribute and i see this intimidating people so as making them less inclined to be involved.

I wondered why, when I stumbled across this thread last night, that I couldn't see what was the original topic of discussion.

Cheers,
