St Peter's 2004 - As Good as the Hype?

Post by Jimmy »

I notice another wine merchant is currently selling this at a substantial discount, which is a very surprising (to me at least) for a wine that has had rave reviews.

I am interested to know what other people's thoughts are on:

1. How good this wine actually is?
2. Why there is still some available given the hype on release and the fact that, as I understand it, it can sometimes be difficult to get?
3. If it is as good as most of the reviews have made out, why would it be so heavily discounted? I believe the current price has been available for at least 2 - 3 weeks?

Anyone?

Where have you seen these specials?

And how much is it going for?

Cheers

I think it is a very good wine and destined to cellar well for many years.

There was plenty made in 2004 and there were so many other good reds from 2004 to compete with, so it hasn't sold out yet. The 2005 will be released 2-3 months.

If you are talking about a price of $39.99 at a Sydney merchant, yes, it's been advertised at that price several times over the past few weeks, I was tempted to get some more.

Yes, it is excellent. Yes, I've drunk all mine except for the not-to-touch 6 pack, and yes I'm tempted to get more at that $39.99 price, though I've never used that merchant for delivery to Canberra before.

Jimmy,

1) At that price (or even undiscounted) it's well worth buying and yes it is as good as reviews.
2) a. In 2002, 03, 05 the amounts have been 500-1000 cases only. In 2004 they made a lot - maybe 4000. But the quality is still there.
b. Not everyone digs cooler climate Shiraz.
c. That's life. Lot's of good wine discounted. Buy it because it WILL sell out and then you will regret not buying more.
d. Why not simply buy 1 bottle and open it. Then buy 6 if you like it?

Cheers -- Jay.

Their delivery service is good and not that expensive.
