Always looking at improving and updating the wine list (even though it's only three weeks old), and was looking for a top line Morngton Peninsula Chardonnay to represent the local boys. Shouldn't be too hard, as I've always liked the Peninsula chardaonnays.
So I was given a sample of the Scorpo '01 Chardonnay to try (in the right price bracket).
Chilled it down just a little, poured a taster only to find it tight and not showing much. However, there was evidence of very good structure. It took a good 20 minutes fro the wine to open up, and open up into something very elegant, great fruit, great balance and the great structure all there. A very special wine indeed!
The only problem I face is that to the average punter, even though they will be paying $40 for it, the wines finesse will never get a chance to show itself as they will consume the bottle in 1/2 to one hour, and demand it be chilled to the buggery!
So Of I go to find the up front fruit style, ready to drink now, will get no better with bottle age and very little oak so it can be drank very cold.

Chards like Turramurra, Kooyong (Sandro Mosele same as Scorpo), Massoni would look enticing to someone who appreciated what you are trying to do. You know better than the punters Rory. Lead them to the greener pasture! Good luck.
