TN: Faiveley Mercurey 'Le Clos Du Roy' 1er Cru 2017

Last time I tasted this was over18 months ago, at a more general pinot noir tasting (by the Grand Cru tasting group) here in Perth. The group tasting note from that event was:

Faiveley ‘Le Clos Du Roy’ 1er Cru 2017 (Burgundy). Crimson colour. Bright strawberry and cherry fruits, and cola on the nose. The bright fruits flow through the palate, along with herbs, and a little stalkiness. Tannins are moderately grippy, and acid provides wonderful freshness. A couple of tasters considered it to be confectioned and medicinal, but I think they are wrong (!) Medium bodied and I thought it finished quite long, but some others disagreed. Obviously a divisive wine. For what my opinion is worth, I think this is too young and will develop considerably over the next 5 years.
There's been little change in colour in the intervening time. The strawberry and cherry fruits remain, but are starting to show development, and the cola has diminished in favour of mushroom. The stalkiness still shows a little on the palate, which is still fresh and lively, and the cherry fruit especially comes through. There's a touch of cola or sarsaparilla, and also a herbal note. Tannins have largely integrated,and provide just a modicum of grip, and the wine finishes medium to long.

A mix of fragrance, flavour and savouriness, without being overly complex or layered.
