G'day
Purchased from the winery a couple of years ago. The Bowman is the top of their three ranges, and only 300 dozen of this wine were made. Silkwood also boasts a pretty good restaurant, and was well worth the visit.
Ruby colour. A mix of savoury and fruit sweetness on the modest nose, with dark cherry, cedary oak, earth / mushroom and cranberry. The palate is slightly stalky, with more of the cherry fruits coming through, and offset by savoury and earthy notes. Tannins are fine and only slightly grippy, and the acid adds a little zing to a wine that is showing signs of development (as it should at 6 years of age). Medium length.
A nice balance between fruit and savoury notes that makes this more interesting than fruit-dominant pinots.
Cheers
Allan
