We had an excellent tasting evening at Brents last Thursday, hosted by Neville. As always the food and service at Brent's were excellent, the lamb dish for me was a standout.
Accompanying this were some wonderful wines, the standouts for me with brief impressions were;
Jean-Philippe Fichet, 07 Mersault - A fresh, spritzy yet textured wine - nice fruit and good length
Benoit Ente, 07 Puligny Montrachet 1er Hameau de Blagny - Yum, wonderful peaches & cream, perfect balance - really started to sing after an hour in the glass
Humbert Freres, 07 Fixin - Barnyard, earthy and with strong fruit to back this up, rustic sure - but very enjoyable
Dupont-Tisserandot, 07 Nuits St Georges Les Topons, tannins to support the pretty and approachable fuit
Dupont-Tisserandot, 07 1er Petite Chapelle, Yum, really enjoyed this - a real Pinot moment for me
Beaune 1er Cru, 06 Bressandes, really classy, perfectly balanced
There were many other highly enjoyable wines, and greatly appreciated the effort that went into this - cheers, Nick

Re: Brisbane, Brents & Burgundy
Thanks for the write-up Nick. Sounds like it was a good night. What did Michelle (?) think of the wines?
I ran into Jeremy at the Barossa in Boardshorts tasting the night before and he said he was going too. Come on Jeremy, don't be shy!
Cheers

Re: Brisbane, Brents & Burgundy
No worries, sorry no detailed notes - I just scribbled a brief inpression of each wine.
Michelle prefered the whites on the whole (as she normally does), to add to my list she was keen on the;
Jean-Phillippe Fichet, 07 Hautes Cotes de Beaune - almost aussie in style, nicely textured and good length
She was pretty stuffed by the time we hit the reds, the downside of being a baker and up since 3am

Yes there did seem to be some mine is bigger than yours going on, but still had a good time and it was a great opportunity to explore some very interesting wines with Brent's pulling out all the stops as usual.

I did not think Brents was that type of place.
