Last night I had the opportunity to taste a couple of offerings from the Fox Creek stable.
Went to a local restaurant called Oscillate Wildly. Strange name, nice food, good prices and a waiter who can decant properly – joy, oh, joy! Almost next door to BarMuda for those familiar with Newtown.
Anyhoo, first up was the 2001 Fox Creek Short Row shiraz. Lovely wine. Very approachable now and bursting with fresh fruit flavours. Not overly complex but a fantastic drink now style that I can’t really see benefiting from any cellar time.
I knew my friend was bringing this so I though we’d do a ‘slant’ as we decided to call it. Not exactly a vertical! I brought the 1996 Fox Creek Reserve shiraz along. Wow, this really is fantastic. This is the first one I’ve tried of the six I have. Still drinking quite young with plenty of tannins on the finish. Still lots of cherry and berry fruit with hints of anise and chocolate and a powdery tannin finish. Plenty of length and complexity. Easily go another five years but not too much to drink now if you really want to.
A most enjoyable night.
