TN: 2005 Millton "Te Arai Vineyard" Chenin Blanc

Post by Adair »

TN: 2005 Millton "Te Arai Vineyard" Chenin Blanc - 13.5% - Gisborne, NZ

Intensely aromatic wine of quince, pear, candied apple and sweet spices with honey and hints of apricot underpinned by creamy acidity on an opulent and long palate. The hint of residual sugar not on its own noticeable. Complex and amazingly pleasurable to drink, this wine impresses both wine expert and novice alike. Although it is hard to think that it could be more enjoyable, it will age well. 92/100 (18.4/20).

I must get some more!

The 2004 was also a superb wine, and probably a touch better in fact, dominated and highlighted by pure candied apple. 92.5/100 (18.5/20).

I have by no means set studied Chenin Blanc, but I have not tasted greater Chenin Blanc from outside France.

Unfortunately though, this wine is sealed under cork. However, the cork is of excellent quality.

Adair,
This is a gorgeous wine and continues my love affair with good Chenin. There is nothing from Aus that comes near it and the only wine I can think outside the Loire that would match it in quality although in a drier style is a wine from South Africa from Ken Forrester called the FMC. I know it's available in the UK.
