Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape 1999

Bought this in Ampuis a year ago,and despite commiting to not opening it for 5 years, got really drunk with a mate and curiosity got the better of me. My memories are quite fond, note that I didn't call the heading "notes" because that would be quite a stretch of the imagination. Ripe but balanced fruit character, nice length, notes of raspberry/blackberry and pepper. I thought it was a nice wine,it didn't last very long and I would give it a recommended tag.

Ravenswood Zinfandel 1995

Can you have a 14.8% alcohol wine that has vegetal character? This one perplexed me a bit,I wondered how you could get something so ripe and still have some green and astringent features around. I know that they get Zins up to 16% but I havn't tried many before,so just trying to get my head around the style. Not entirely unpleasant, but I wouldn't recommend anyone buying it.

Chambers Special Tokay

I've been really getting into the fortified's lately, and this was the last of the Chambers that I had to try. Really good. Just awesome intensity of flavour and length,a classic wine that keeps going and going. The Rare Muscat was another step up,but it was in price too,and I think this and the Grand Muscat are much better VFM and I highly recommend them to anyone.

Cheers
