To All Good People,
Just wondering if anyone has TN for the 1996 Coldwater Cab Merlot. I have not experience in New Zealand Reds.
Cheers,
Steve

Goldwater Estate is one of the oldest wineries on the Island, set up in the mid 80's if my memory serves me right, and have built a pretty good reputation during the 90's (so much so that the forward selling of their wines is a big event in Auckland according to my uncle). I've not tasted the 96, but I had a 95 last xmas. My tasting note for this wine was a brick edge to a plummy coloured wine. Nose was restrained and only cassis and oak (french?) really stood out (no vegetative smells here). Palate was balanced with good mouth feel but had a slight cabernet hole, with reasonable length. Enjoyed it with turkey!
I'm not sure how 96 was rated, but 95 was a pretty good year around NZ and the Goldwater I drank was about ready to go (I wouldn't have liked to have seen it in 2-3 years, faded glory). My advice would be to crack it and enjoy it.
Cheers
