TN: 2002 Mitolo the Savitar Shiraz

This was a great wine, I have tried their 2001 GAM but found this one much more complex and satisfying.
A dark purple color with a wonderful juicy, intense nose of black fruits and coffee. Plush, dense, rich blackberry, licorice and chocolate flavours well integrated in with the tannins and a superb length. It should develop some wonderful complexity over the next decade or so.

I was at the same gathering, along with John Davis, another forumite, and must agree, very polished, plush and luxurious wine, very very impressive.
First bottle emptied (and there were a few!), always a sure sign.

How long did you have it open for?? decanted??
I couldnt finish the bottle, just far too hot on the alcohol...maybe I am overly sensitive to this trait.

Hi Adam
I am sensitive to this too, disliking most of the high alcohol wines like Noons, some Greenock Creeks etc.
Didn't find it here though, about 14.5% I think, no noticable heat for me on this occasion.

That means nothing, especially if it was The Meat Pie King (John Davis) and his mate Glen. Those two bastards will drink anything.

Gents,
I discussed this wine last night with the guy I drank it with, we both agreed the alcohol hit was huge.
My question is, could any form of taint enhance the perception of alcohol???
In any case i will try it again this weekend.

Hmmm. I am somewhat sensitive to alcohol when it seems out of balance, but this was fine, it made for a wonderful mouthfeel.

H Adam,
The difference may not be because of decanting, but rather temperature differrences. No doubt warmer reds show more alcohol.
