Any recommendations for a night in the Hunter?

If we are lucky we might manage to leave a small boy with his grandparents and have night in the Hunter between Christmas and New Year. My knowledge of where to stay in the Hunter is very out of date. Ideally looking for good restaurant with accommodation within walking distance. Obviously will need to be open at that time of year.
I was sure there was a thread on something similar but I failed to find it using the search function.

Kurrajong Cottages (
http://www.kv.com.au ph:02 6574 7117) with Brent's Restaurant within walking distance. If you don't mind a short drive, the Mill restaurant is quite nice too.
The cottages are lovely and very well appointed.

I cant remember the name of the place but the restaurant is called 'shakey tables' ex food and the accommodation is good.

If you are looking for a luxury resort then Cypress Lake Golf resort is the choice.

I can
definately recommend this one. The units are top notch and the
breakfast.....fantastic (I rate accomodation directly on the breakfast available, so for me, nothing else matters). There are quite a few wineries within a short drive of the resort, i.e, Lakes Folly, Brokenwood, McWilliams, Tower Estate, and many others. Overall a great experience, but since I was there for work I didn't get to tour any wineries except McWilliams, where we had dinner.

Without question the best accom in the Hunter is Tower Lodge,absolutely first class but also expensive( $500 bed and breakfast). The good part is that you can walk to Roberts and Blaxlands restaurants and I can recommend the food at both heartily.

twin trees cottages is all i have stayed in at the Hunter so far... very basic, cottages are well spread out over the compound so you get lots of much needed privacy
and they come with kitchen breakfast foods etc. walking distance from tower estate, roberts restaurant, most impt of all, very reasonably priced. go to the website and check it out! very close to lake's folly too, but i reckon the 2001 red must be sold out by now??
oh, and remeber to have lunch at bimbadgen! beautiful view and decent food, they have a nice sparkling too! have a lovely time!
