High-involvement consumers, he explains, think about wine. They read wine columns in newspapers and magazines and they may also read specialist wine magazines. They talk about wine, consider it a part of their lifestyle and constantly seek out information about a wine?s provenance, its winemaker, its vintage and other details. They are prepared to experiment as they enlarge their body of information. They are also willing to pay more for their wines but they are just as ready to look for bargains. And they don't mind taking a risk in buying something they don't know much about if they perceive a possible good deal.

Low-involvement consumers, on the other hand, although they like wine and drink it, don't want to be burdened by detail and technicalities, and they tend not to read about it. They are also rather risk-averse, tending to limit their repertoire, sticking to a few well known brands. They'd rather spend a little more on a (familiar) wine than risk buying something unfamiliar just because it's on a special.

I think I can guess which category a lot of people here fit into...

It wouldn't be a big step to think that everybody who actually posts on this Forum is a "High-involvement consumer"!?

The very fact that a person is involved in a wine forum I would think classifies them as "high-involvement" using the above definition.
