Goodbye to SOHO offline 19th July bookings
Posted: Sun Jun 22, 2008 4:16 pm
by n4sir
At the beginning of the month I heard Bradley & Peta have sold SOHO restaurant - the final settlement date is the middle of July, so I immediately booked us in the last Saturday before the doors are closed.
The deal will be similar to last time, four courses including corkage $55/head, BYO glasses - I'll post the menu as soon as it's worked out.
SOHO has been one of our favourite venues so this is the last opportunity to say goodbye to Bradley & Peta and send them off in style - I'm hoping we get a big turn out for this one, and everyone pulls out all the stops to share something special for this occasion.
Cheers,
Ian

I just heard we've got the private dining room for this one so we're limited to a maximum of 16 people (the courtyard is unavailable).
So far we have 12, so that leaves 4 more spaces:
n4sir
Steve
Gustav
scanlon
Nick & Cathy
John #11 & Sue
David & Pam
rooview & Mark

Ian

Sue and I think "sometimes older is better", and we haven't brought any SA wine so far.....
So we would very much like to bring:
1988 Henschke Mount Edelstone shiraz
1993 Thomas Hardy Cabernet (cos we all know Coonawarra cabernet rulez)
and something special and secret (again from South Australia).

At this stage I reckon I'll have +1, so it looks like were fully booked for this one:
n4sir +1 - magnums of Chardonnay & red blends
Steve
Gustav +1
scanlon +2
Nick & Cathy
John #11 & Sue - 88 Edelstone, 93 Thomas Hardy & a mystery white wine
David & Pam
rooview & Mark - 95 Krug & 89 Suiduraut or 94 Quinta do Noval VP
I'll get in contact with Bradley and see what the menu will be - at this stage I'd expect something similar to last time, maybe a different dessert.
All the suggested wines sound pretty good so far - I'm waiting to see what other people have in mind, but at this stage it's a pretty safe bet some magnums will make an appearance: either a 1990 Chateau Picque Caillou from Graves, 1999 Yalumba Signature or a 1996 Limestone Ridge along with a magnum of Chardonnay to be decided (could be local or Burgundy).
Cheers,
Ian

Just got a copy of the menu - three courses, featuring my favourite entrée from winter last year, a similar beef main to we had at the last offline there, and a creme brulee for dessert:
Greetings Ian. Here is a menu I thought would be suitable for the 19th
Entrée
Poussin Galantine filled with a farce of Corn Fed Chicken and Black Truffle Salsa and served with Roasted Garlic Risotto and Kalamata Jus.
Main
Grain fed tenderloin of Beef served on a Pomme Rosti with caramelized onions and spinach, served with aioli and beef demi glace.
Dessert
Vanilla Creme Brulee served with passionfruit dipping sauce and Scottish shortbread
Regards
Bradley

I've finally bought the wines we're bringing for the offline. I couldn't make myself buy aged wine this time so I ended up with:
- 2002 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon (I know it was a cool vintage, but it should be a very interesting drink)
- 2004 Best's Thomson Family Shiraz (I've been aching to try out this icon)
This is going to be a legendary offline
cheers,

Subject to the vagaries of cork, we'll bring along:
2002 Bouchard Vigne de L'enfant Jesus
1999 Kay's Block 6 Shiraz
Something else as a back-up in case we run out of wine
We won't have the chance to open beforehand as we'll be out & about all day, so we'll just have to cross our fingers!
What time are we booked for Ian? We're going to catch the new Batman at around 3.30pm, so might be a little late...
Cheers
Nick

Look forward to seeing the usual suspects there. Not sure what to bring yet - am in 2 minds or is it 3. Better than being 2 faced.
