Coonawarra vintage 2007

Alot of Coonawarra was devastated by several frosts late last year wiping out huge amounts of crop leaving many growers looking at tiny crushes.

The bad news continues for Coonawarra as I notice they had 3 inches (76mm) of rain in 12 hours overnight. Anything left would be hard pressed not to suffer berry split I'd suggest unless the berries aren't that far advanced yet and therefore resistant.

The rain band swept into western Victoria with even heavier falls but not sure if it hit any wine regions.

There could be a lot of idle wineries this year.

That's terrible news Steve - with all this weird weather 2007 could end up being known as the vintage from hell in quite a few areas.

Cheers,
Ian

Just retrurned from Coonawarra and all is well down there with the remaining crop. The berries are still green so no berry split and the rain was well received.

Yes, I've spoken to a few winemakers from Coonawarra in the last few days, and the rain doesn't seem to have been too bad. Most of them are expecting to crush only about 40% of normal though.
