Seen it all now. Yeah went to a supermarket today saw it still in stock. You Aussies really should have kept some for yourself!

As for me, rather a mixed case of the Te Mata releases.

There's still plenty around over here too, some cheaper at auction, some around the same price, some up to nearly twice that price at the tourist rip-off merchants.

yeah there are small wine shops here that have $1000 on it for the rich asians who want the label at any price, just strange seeing it here in a supermarket as most of it was snapped up on release by the 6 pack

Gosh! What supermarket? When Marie and I were there last July (we're heading back over again tihs year too - woohoo!) we were impressed with the range avaialble at the Pak N Save we went to in Christchurch - picked a bottle of the Mt Difficulty pinot for $37.99 and I've seen it here for as much as $80.. huge!

Typical ! Why buy it on release when all you have to do is wait to buy it on the secondary market !

How much was the 98 on release in AUD? I thought it actually was the one recent vintage that is actually dearer on the secondry?

It was $350 ex CD (if you were lucky enough to have a pre-release allocation) or $400 at most retail outlets.

Cheers,
Ian

Yes, the 98 on release was $350 from cellar door ($1250 for the magnum), in some places a little cheaper. Within a few weeks it was selling on the secondary market for $700+ ($2100+ for the magnum).

These days you can pick up the 1998 for around $380+, sometimes less and the magnum for around $1200 ! Certainly not worth rushing out and getting on first release !
