Retail Wine Stores in or near Sydney CBD?

I am making an all too rare trip to Sydney next week for work.

Can anyone please tell me where I should go to look for some wine to buy?

Preferably, it will be in or near Sydney CBD, have a wide selection of wines and be competitive on price.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jimmy

- Ultimo Wine Cellars in Pyrmont (20 min walk from CBD)
- 5 Ways cellars in Paddington (15 min walk)

CBD shops:
- The Oak Barrell in Elizabeth St
- Elizabeth Bay Cellars (nr Kings X / 15 min walk)
- Best Cellars in East Sydney
- GPO Cellars in 1 Martin Place
- Australian Wine Centre at Circular Quay (frighteningly expensive)
- And CBD Cellars.

David,

Between Liverpool and Goulburn Sts - one block from Hyde Park/Oxford street opp. old mark Foys. It's been around for 20 odd years and has always had a great selection of Aussie wines.

Just making sure that the name and location is clear!!

The Adelaide Australian Wine Centre is the finest retailer I know!

(The emphases are all mine, not Danny's.)

Elizabeth Bay Cellars is good value for money. Jason looks after a lot of aged wine in the bowels of the building, some is particularly good value, although I have already cleaned him out of the Penfolds Bin 920, St Henri 1994 and 1992 Grant Burge Meshach.

Oak Barrel had a good collection of Wendouree Shiraz the last time I looked.

Allan

Gavin,

The store at Circular Quay would be 50% more expensive than you are on "like" labels. I think Danny was being euphemistic when he said "frighteningly expensive" !
