Hi all,
If you had to choose 1 of the following 3 wines (based on prices listed as follows) then what would it be ? and if you had to choose 2 of the following 3 wines what would it be ?
1999 Greenock Creek Roennfeldt shiraz (CD $165)
1999 Grange ($300+ I assume)
2002 Torbreck Run Rig (CD $225)
THX in advance

Run Rig 02 because......
1- Haven't tried the wine.
2- I find Australia makes a mess out of shiraz and viognier blends. This seems to have done well by many accounts.

Easy Grange 99 is definatetely NO BUY. U r paying $100 for pedigree & $100 for prestige.
Btwn. Greenock RR & Torbreck RR, it's down to ur preference really.Greenock is a massive bugger, the Torbreck is more stylish.

I was fortunate enough to taste both 2002 Runrig and 2001 La Testa Shiraz. For me, La Testa in a flash.......

But if need to be chosen between those 3, it has to be Runrig
Sorry abbout my previous post. I should have read the message clearly.
Have a wonderful Xmas and a happy New Year!
Lets drink lots of good red wines.

I bought some 02 Run Rig without a second thought (and I normally think very carefully spending $200+ a bottle) and didn't think about buying the 99 Grange at all, it was never a starter for me.
Agree with Guest, the 01 La Testa is a ripper at $100 too, but its not on the list for consideration.

Tony Delisio's wines are good to excellent but no way comparable to the RRig.

Agreed Sam, but the La Testa is less than half the price of RR.

For sheer quality, it's a toss up between RunRig and Grange. If price is a consideration, then RunRig easily. 99 Grange is a beautiful wine, but it's at least $150 overpriced. I actually don't get it: 99 grange would not be so expensive if it weren't for 98 grange having sucked the price up a fair whack. 96 grange gets about $280 at auction, and it's a better wine than the 99 grange (as good as the 99 grange is).

1) 1999 Greenock Creek Roennfeldt shiraz (CD $165) - because I have never tried it, it goes for much more, and I may as well try a big Parker pointer.
2) 2002 Torbreck Run Rig (CD $225) - only second choice because I have tried it... and it is great, but curiousity wins, although I expect it to be better than the above.

Interesting
Roennfeldt for me for the exact opposite reasons, I have tried it and its stunning, and Run Rig as I haven't tried it, but not because it couldn't be better!

The 01 RunRig is probably the best red I've ever tried, could the 02 be even better?
The handful of Roennfeldts I've beeb priviledged to try have been in the same stratospheric realm.
Oh how I wish I was 2000 km closer to you guys in SA, to go to the Barossa and try these wines regularly must be bliss. And you just keep producing great new producers all the time, where did Kalleske and Schubert etc come from? and what about those other micro labels that seem to only go the US?
Merry Xmas to all the Auswine forumites, hope you drink well on the day
All the best, Eddie

IMO, the 02 is far superior to the 01 in terms of flavour profile and has much more subtle complexity.

Enzo.Scotland, the 1998 RunRig is one of the best wines I've ever been priveledged to try, the 2001 is so close it doesn't matter.
Dropped in to Torbreck last week to try the much anticipated 2002 but I picked one of only three days they are not open each year, the staff Xmas party. By the look of what they had lined up on the bar it was going to be a great day, lucky bastards!
I'll post a TN on the 02 RunRig when I visit Torbreck again in the next couple of weeks, I think I've already got a full car of companions for the trip.
I've had about half a dozen various Roennfeldt Roads across vintages of varying kudos and can say they were all spectacular, this is one label that seems to suffer little from vintage variation, probably because the vineyards are micro managed.

Steve,
You're one lucky sod being able to drive over to the Barossa to visit vineyards like Torbreck Greenock Creek etc....
Not too many vineyards here in Scotland !
A happy and prosperous 2005 to all Auswine Forumites.

Steve 'ol boy,
what is the suspension like on the beasty? I can imagine the boot will be chockers on the way back.
Have a great New Year,

Enzo, I'm more than happy to show you around if you want to come over for a visit then you too can enjoy it as I do - aaah Adelaide, centre of the wine universe!
MM - many are the times I've had a full boot after a days tasting. I don't seem to have much trouble filling the seats either when I announce a trip, there's alwaya a mad scramble at various workplaces applying for flexidays.

Glad to hear that Steve. Just one question:- What is a flexiday??? We do not have them.
Mike.
