This has to have the silliest statement I've seen for a while: "This year's challenge championed a record 268 entries to date and represented all states and territories with the exception of Tasmania, Northern Territory and the ACT."

All Territories right but not from NT or ACT - Australia's terrotories are:
Ashmore and Cartier Islands
Australian Capital Territory
Christmas Island
Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Coral Sea Islands
Indian Ocean Territories
Jervis Bay
Norfolk Island
Northern Territory
Australian Antarctic Territory
Heard and McDonald Islands

Indeed. JO's wine of the year (97/100) and it could only poll 16-odd points. Something going on there beyind usual variation for stylistic preference.

I tasted the blue chip shiraz yesterday and ended up pouring it down the sink, I'm no expert but I don't understand how such an awful wine can come in second in a major competition, my opinion was backed up by a MW later that day.

Whatever their judging method I generally find the results useful. A cast down the list shows a few bargains that need a serious look.

The only really contriversial result being the 1997 Maglieri (Cellarmasters) Shark Block which was just medium bodied and charry when it was released, cleary not up to winers standard. The results however have thrown up a couple of hidden gems, the best of which is the 1998 Yaldara Farms, stunning wine at $25.

Actually he hasnÂ’t, he is entirely consistent and that can be seen when you read enough of his TN's. He doesnÂ’t mind them big if they are well balanced and show some class and a little elegance. He rated the 2002 Torbrecks pretty highly for example.

I also just checked to see if my memory was correct, it was - JO rated the 01 Hanisch 18.6 and that was another pretty big Barossa, but then (from memory) you slated the wine.

G'day Ric,
I missed out on the Hanisch 2001. The Hanisch I had recently was their '02. I didnt slate the wine. It was extremely well balance, elegant and classy, certainly not big. I only wished it has more horsepower.
