Went along to Attswood yesterday - not a winery I’m overly familiar with, but based out near Trenthan / Ballarat with wines from Macedon / Geelong areas.
They were a very polished team yesterday - 4 adults and 4 kids aged < 5. They worked up some off menu food for the kids and the French food paired well with the wines for the adults - steak excellent. They didn’t mind the chaos that ensued either.
Did the premium tasting.
2024 Glenlyon Estate Chardonnay
Subtle and restrained. Citrus and stone fruit sit over a clean acid line, with oak playing a supporting role rather than driving the wine. Fresh, balanced and very easy to drink.
2022 Glenlyon Estate Pinot Noir
Bright red fruits with a gentle savoury edge. Showing good length and freshness rather than power.
2023 Garibaldi Farm Pinot Noir
Darker fruit profile, firmer tannins and some oak spice providing shape and persistence.
2023 Nebbiolo
Youthful and tightly wound, but carries plenty of interest and character. Tannins, lighter red fruits, don’t mind it. Willl be better in 5+ years.
2023 Hommage Pinot Noir
The standout of the tasting for me. More savoury, structured and complete, with darker fruit, spice and real tannin presence. Built for the cellar rather than immediate - they’re deliberately releasing these wines with more bottle age (23 the current release). Took one home to try again in 5-10 years - they’re suggesting up to 15 years for this one under the right conditions.
Overall, great experience which always seems to enhance the enjoyment of the wine.
Cheers Ed
