May 2026 Purchases

Post by VinoEd »

How fast is time moving…. Almost 1/3 through May.

I grabbed a couple of bottles this month:

3 X 2023 Cullen Diana Madeline
2 X 2023 Clonakilla SV
3 X 2019 Tyrell’s Vat 1

Contemplating looking at a bottle of Mt Edelstone but maybe hold off to see what the pricing does. Up to $300 p/bottle for the 2022, seems a sizeable jump?

Queue now in rack until Mount Mary I think….(unless I happen across something very compelling!)

Cheers Ed

12 2022 Oliver's Taranga MV Shiraz
6 2021 Petaluma Coonawarra... should be an absolute cracker!

We were having a laugh Ed.
Between 1982-1990 vintages KE, Cyril, Mt Ed and HoG were our house reds. We drank dozens of them, $5, $12, $12, $27 respectively. Pity Stephen Henschke abruptly stopped sensible pricing.
I purchased a single bottle of 2012 Mt Ed for $105.... Henschke wines simply not worth it now...despite being the wine critics darling with 100 point scores.
You'd be far better off with Standish, Sami Odi, Eperosa.
Plus wait for the second hand market. Several vintages of Mt Ed sub $200.
Cheers Craig

It’s miserable, rainy week in ADL. So got a box full of Henschke’s from the cellar. I still drink them. I don’t buy them though.

2005 Abbott’s Prayer last night. Beautiful and even. Just a little stelvin-boring compared to previous vintages under cork.

Next a 95 & 2005 Cyril

94 & 2004 Mt Ed

6 x Knee Deep 2023 Third Rule Margaret River Chardonnay. Sadly another winery that's had to throw in the towel as the wine glut worsens. Talk is world wide consumption has declined by 10% since 2020 and is at its lowest since 1960. Younger drinkers drinking less but better quality and more competition from other alcoholic beverages. I'm doing my bit to help soak it up.
