This wine comes from the northern Rhone, near Ampuis. A vibrant deep purple in colour. Decanted for 90 minutes prior to service, and opened up considerably with swirling in the glass.

Ripe blackberry on the nose, along with some spices, fragrant flowers and a little tar. The palate is quite expressive, with red and black berries, more spices, fine and well integrated tannins and juicy acidity. There's some savoury aspects as well, like timber but not in the usual 'oak' sense. Medium bodied, and decent length.

I have little experience with northern Rhone reds (but hope to have more!) so cannot estimate longevity. This is moderately complex and drinking well now.

Hey Allan, I have previously tasted this same wine/vintage back in October 2022:

"This is very restrained at first. Subtle to the point of disappointment. With more air it shows a little bit more. it is certainly a very perfumed style of syrah, which I expect from this producer. Purple berries, violets, deep plum notes. Still feels a little short on the palate, but looking at it over a couple of days I have to conclude it will show better in c3+ years. At €22 the value is questionable, but I suspect it can be found cheaper than that. 89+"

A year later I had the 2020 version and thought it was materially better. It is a producer that is always worth looking out for.

this cuvee will go 15 years, no problem. Ogier had a purple patch around 10 years ago when they employed a Kiwi wine-maker, really cleaned the wines up. Sadly, he left for pastures closer to home. The 2018-2020 trio are fabulous and a ridiculous value.

Yes they were a bit too wild before that for Aussie palates. I loved them though.
