2002 Schubert Estate Goose Block Shiraz – tried this one after seeing Halliday give it 96/100. The property is on Roenfeldt Road, a tick away from Torbreck.
Charry oak and ripe, dark fruits on the nose, giving way to a medium to full bodied palate crammed with bitter chocolate, berry and coffee characteristics. The wine finished long, albeit with a slightly menthol-like note. Great balance (only 14% alcohol) and well put together.
96/100 ? The jury is out. I’ll try another one before passing judgement. One of my mates was less than impressed, particularly the menthol note.
