Hi all,

I'm looking for some inspiration for some new week night quaffers at around the $25 and below mark. As much as I love Chalambar, looking to broaden my horizons a bit and explore some new wines/grapes/styles.

I couldn't find a similar thread but apologies if one exists.

bit above your budget ...clonakilla hilltops punches way above its weight IMO.

Second the Majella 'The Musician'. It's absolute great VFM.
If you are a member of the John Riddoch Club you can get Black Label Cabernet for $27 which is just over your $25 mark. Can't go wrong there.

Haven't had Metala white label for a while but it also was a staple quaffer for a long time.

Woods Crampton "Old John" Shiraz Bonvedro 2015, available from our host for $23.50 - Barossa flavour profile with more of a medium weight, very good.

If you want to try some new grapes/styles, perhaps try some wines from Italy? Heaps of options under $25 which are readily available. For the reds, you can try varietals such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Sangiovese. I'm not into whites so can't make any recommendations there. I reckon that in the price bracket you're looking at, the Italian reds offer more complexity and interest than Aussie reds. If you want some tips where to purchase from, just PM me.

Gomersal Shiraz @ around $20. Great expression of Barossa shiraz
Woodlands Cab Merlot and Cab Franc Merlot @ around $20 pb. You simply cannot go wrong.
St Huberts Yarra Cab at around the same level as those above.

This is great advice, and is a good way to freshen up your drinking.

Perhaps see how many varietals you can get around to trying? You never know...might find something off the beaten track that you really enjoy.

There are so many good wines to list, a few worth a mention:

Alternative varieties:
Check out the "La Prova" range by Scott Wines: Langrein, Nero d’Avola, Montepulciano, & Pinot Grigio. All very good drinking wines, others worth a look are:
Mr Micks Tempranillo
Taylors Wines Tempranillo
2014 Alamos Malbec (Mendoza)

Others that I think are good value:
I tried this the other day: St Hallett Faith Shiraz 2015 (bargain at ~$9 pb)
Kilikanoon Killerman’s Run range
O’Leary Walker Clare Valley Cabernet-Malbec, Shiraz & Cabernet all around ~$20
Naked Run Wines The First Riesling

Pegau Cotes du Rhone Maclura if you want some Euro action. Can be had for about $20 odd.

As the weather warms up, straight Grenache and GSM blends are always good. You will find good examples from CIrillo, Teusner, Sons of Eden, Teusner, Kalleske and Turkey Flat for under $25.

The Hoddles Creek Estate range of wines is also great VFM.

Right now drinking 2011 Tyrrell's Rufus Stone McLaren Vale Shiraz, bargain at $13 this week

Also have 2014 Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet at ~$20/b, another bargain

Also available is "the Big Show" dry red which is Bonvedro and maybe Graciano. Good gear!
