Sydney Offline January

Hey everyone

Since I missed the last couple of offlines I was hoping to get another one going sooner than later, if people aren't suffering offline fatigue :P

I will be around sydney twiddling my thumbs in the middle of January. I could do 15, 16, 17 or 21 January.

Anyone interested? I'm thinking Watts on Crown which was a suggestion by Michael I think, but happy with pretty much anywhere.

Cheers
Scott

Hey Scott,

keen for something on Wed 21st Jan if others are keen. Could do Thurs 15th Jan as a second choice.

Watts is a good choice, might have to limit numbers to 6 or 8 if there though, see what Mick thinks.

Cheers
Tim

As I'm sending the family to Tasmania on the 7th and picking them up on the 21st, my time's my own in between. Aside from onerous year-end processing requirements at work.
So I might be able to step back into my 'old bachelor life' and drag myself to an offline somewhere too...
cheers,
Graeme

I'm an unlikely starter unfortunately.

Re Watts...i dont think i've been in a group bigger than 6 or 7, however others have mentioned mixed reports with larger groups. Its a local fav for me, certainly the offlines we've had this year there were decent. Drinking Hackers champers with freshly shucked oysters on the balcony before one dinner was a highlight :D
I seem to recall Monghead brought a classic blind wine that night too!

Enjoy!

I'm in! Flexible with dates at the moment, all of the dates are fine with me. Could change in the future, but right now happy with whatever pleases everyone else. Having been to Watts I would cap it at 8 at the most.

I'll bring an old Rockford or Wendouree, as well as another 'blind' wine of mine if that pleases everyone.

Ok well unfortunately 21 Jan does suit me best and it sounds like it suits a number but maybe not Graeme? We can't tempt you for that date mate?

At this stage let's say 21st at Watts and I will say no more than 8 maximum.

I potentially have a couple of very mature German Rieslings to bring but will see how we go.

21st suits me as well so count me in. Upstairs is best from recollection, drinks on the balcony is a nice start.

How about some first timers chiming in for a place!

I'm pretty certain I could add a ring in or two if we expanded the numbers, and as much as I love to see you guys at these things, it would be awesome to see a few new faces as well

I've been thinking of holding a tasting at Rubyos in Newtown (was going to do it for the next one!) Myself, Dave and a few others went there a few weeks back with 4 people and it was well priced, decent food, friendly and a lot of fun. And even though the place was full, it was still really quiet and conversation was easy. Highly recommended for offlines!

If people want, I'll ask them about a group of 10 on that date? I'd prefer to stick with 10 max.

I'm happy with Newtown - even closer to home for me! I agree with capping it at 10 at the most. Any new forumites speak up before the places get taken by those who know how good offlines are!

Sounds ok to me Tim.

I agree 10 is a pretty good number so everyone arill can chat and get a decent pour.

Fantastic idea Tim, stumbling distance from home and a restaurant i have been meaning to try.

If no forumites jump out of the woodwork, can i add a plus 1 ? A mate with a good palate, a good cellar, and also armed with the odd opinion, should fit in perfectly!

Taking a peek in the cellar I'll bring an '04 Rockford Rifle Range as the staple and also an '02 Pirramimma Fortified Grenache. No idea what that'll be like, but it'll be interesting to find out!

I'm not sure what sort of food Rubyos serves, will check out their website, but I will probably bring either a 1976 J U E Hufnagel Rauenthaler Wulfen Rheingau Auslese or 1976 Langwerth Von Simmern Hattenheimer Mannberg Rheingau Spatlese

Or possibly both, in case one is no good. Otherwise we could eyeball these two '76ers side by side.

I will bring a 1990 Parker First Growth Terra Rossa Cab

Would there be any interest in a mini-vertical of any of these? I'm leaning towards the Marsanne and then I can bring a red. Maybe a 92 Pyrus to go with the Parker Estate or an early 90's Hunter Shiraz if there are any fans.

Too soon after the last one?

I've never really tried much in the way of Marsanne, let alone well aged examples. I'd be quite interested to check out one or two of those.

If most people bring more than 1 wine I better bring a paramedic with me too!

Jesus Dave, just one of those mini verticals is enough! I'd pick the Marssane given the age difference, and it being something different.
