Was hoping CraigNZ is still about, just wanted his gauge on the 98 Coleraine. Still dark and very dense, without air it felt complete though opening up it felt, unusually so, that more air was needed. I enjoyed the wine but was expecting a little more in regards to the fruit development as it was very bright and youthful. To be fair, it should have been let settle a few more months, having come from the cellar in ADL just a week or so ago.

Thousand Candles was a real treat and I'd be fascinated as to how its received in Australia. Off year Cote Rotie like on the nose, with many deceptive shades notable a long and savory structure including a hybrid cool climate shiraz meets typically Aussie pinot muscle. What fun but wow its pretty dear!

Thanks for posting this. I too have wondered where Craig(NZ) has gone. He had a lot to say about NZ and Australian wine.

I've got three bottles of the 2013 Thousand Candles. Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Sav Blanc, not a combo you see often and yes, expensive, but my curiosity got the better of me. My only queries come in the form of peak drinking windows so I know when to crack the first one (I'm not a huge fan of young shiraz).
