At this point another opportunity has come up, so no need to keep us on a waiting list. Looking forward to next time.

I've raided the cellar and have made some recent acquisitions...

Now I have to decide between 2006 Clonakilla shiraz viognier or 1994 Clarendon Hills merlot, and 1999 Houghton White Burgundy or 2003 Stefano Lubiano "Collina" Chardonnay... :?:  :?

Any preferences? I'm leaning towards both reds and the chardonnay.

Personally would love to try the Clonakilla (with a decent decant) as I haven't tried it before & have heard such good things.
Cheers

I agree with Nick. The Clonakilla sounds very interesting. Talking of decating - I guess both the Moss Wood and the Best's would benefit with some hours in the decanter?? Opinions?

cheers

I not attending the dinner (although I'll be at Soho) so may be out of line, but that 06 Clonakilla is a beauty!!!!

Give it a big decant though, great wine.

Well it looks like the Clonakilla is definitely making an appearance :)

I opened one of the White Burgundies today and it's a bit... average, I guess. I tried an older one at Gavin's place a few years ago and it was brilliant, but this isn't even in the same league. Very disappointing.

I'll open the merlot and see what it's like, so I may be one person plus three wines...

It's now time to announce my mystery white, this will in fact be a 1998 Yattarna Chardonnay.

I'm a little suspect about the 1993 Thomas Hardy, so will bring a backup, something from 1996, or even 1998....

Gustav, both your wines will benefit from decanting for at least a few hours...

I phoned the Henschke CD, and was specifically advised NOT to decant the 1988 Mt Edelstone. :?

I've been pretty flat out at work this week, so I haven't had much of a chance to update this thread. With the number of bottles of Chardonnay already making an appearance I decided to put the magnum away for another night, and will take a sticky instead:

n4sir +1 - 99 Yalumba Signature magnum, 02 Ch Lamothe Guignard Sauternes
Steve - 03 Stefano Lubiano "Collina" Chardonnay, 06 Clonakilla shiraz viognier, 94 Clarendon Hills merlot
Gustav +1 - 04 Moss Wood CS, 04 Best's Thomson Family Shiraz
scanlon +2 - 04 LEAS chardonnay magnum & probably a red, maybe sparkling
Nick & Cathy - 02 Bouchard Vigne de L'enfant Jesus, 99 Kay's Block 6 Shiraz
John #11 & Sue - 88 Edelstone, 98 Yattarna, something else from 96 or 98
rooview & Mark - 95 Krug & 94 Quinta do Noval VP
David & Pam - ???

Cheers,
Ian

Ps. For anyone that isn't able to make it to SOHO this weekend and is keen to dine there before they close, they are actually going to be open for one more week because the new owners were delayed in their liquor licence application.

Just thought I'd mention I'm bringing the wine for myself and my +2, so if it seems like a lot from one person, it's really not :P

in addition to the LEAS, I'm bringing a Foggo Black Myriah Sparkling Red, an ironpot bay vividius riesling 2005, a 1991 pietramora and will hunt through my bottles for something else. I'm going with the theme of no theme (or perhaps weird and eclectic)

I'm bringing a redman 1973 cabernet which is probably dead, but for a curiosity piece rather than as an actual contribution.

looking forward to this evening!

The 1988 Edelstone is madeirised :(

Will bring 2001 Edelstone instead (checked), 1996 Bin 389 (checked), The 1993 Thomas Hardy (checked), 1998 Yattarna, and a 2005 Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet Pinot (1er cru) as reserve.

see you all tonight!

Okay, I've opened and checked the 99 Signature which is fine, and worked out a rough order with the replacements:

1995 Krug (and maybe the Foggo Black Mariah, or we could save it for the finish or mid-courses?)

05 Ironpot Bay riesling
03 Stefano Lubiano "Collina' chardonnay
04 LEAS chardonnay magnum
98 Yattarna

(or 05 Ramonet 1er Cru Chassagne Montrachet Pinot)
02 Bouchard Vigne de L'enfant Jesus
91 Fattoria Zerbina Pietramora Riserva Sangiovese
94 Clarendon Hills Merlot

01 Mt Edelstone
99 Kay Bros Block 6
06 Clonakilla SV
04 Best Thompson shiraz

99 Yalumba Signature magnum
96 Penfolds Bin 389
93 Thomas Hardy CS
04 Moss Wood CS
(maybe 73 Redman CS)

02 Ch Lamothe Guignard Sauternes
94 Quinta do Noval VP

Cheers,
Ian

Ps. Remember to BYO glasses, and as you can gather from the list above we'll probably be serving four wines at a time - four glasses each could be very handy. 8)

The lineup looks great! The Moss Wood and Best's are both looking very promising. Both wines were poured into decanters at 1 pm. I'll pour them back into their respective bottles just before we leave. Looking forward to seeing you all again (and your wines ;))!
