Heggies Riesling is one I left off the quaffer page - top value riesling.

Had to share - contacted Greenock Creek last Monday to say I loved the 02 Apricot Block I had had the Saturday before. They added me to the mailing list and said they still had limited numbers available from the previous release. Made an order on Thursday of last week, get home from work today to find a nice little package.

Could not be more impressed with the personal service they gave. Will be a LONG time customer for sure!

I hope you got some of the Cabernet Dan. It is amazing.

2012 Knappstein Ackland Riesling x 6

BTW has anyone tried the 2012 Taylors St Andrews Riesling and or the 2012 Pauletts Antonia. At $50 (Antonia) it is the most expensive that I have come across...but could be tempted.
I am cherry picking the 2012 Clare's and EVs now, notice that Tim Adams, Skillogalee, Mitchells and Seven Hill all have a second riesling (generally the top label), with some only releasing 06-08 vintage now, so will be a little while before the last of the 2012s are out.

Good photo of the GC's Dan. Might give them a call to see if there are any 2010s still going.

Cheers Craig.

No 10 cab left I'm afraid. They did have the 09, but from what I read the 10 Shirazes are gold, and 09s not the best - put my money where it would work the hardest!

5 x 2005 John Forrest collection cabernet sauvignon. After N4sir's glowing review, I had to get my hands on some. Tried to get more, but the only online stockist in Australia had sold out :( . If it is only half as good as Ian's notes indicate, it should be a cracker.

1 x 1998 Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet
1 x 2000 Brokenwood Graveyard Shiraz
Both purchased to be consumed Saturday night.

Looking at a 2003 Rockford Basket Press as well, haven't decided if I can justify that much on three bottles so close together

Nice work Dan, that Graveyard 2000 was fantastic when I tried it last year. The Riddoch 98 will be young young so needs a long decant, at least 2 or 3 hours, if not more. No harm in giving the Graveyard an hour or two either.

Wasn't thrilled with the 03 BP, nothing bad, just depends on how much you're paying for it. Stonewallers $55 or so yep, retail $100+ nope IMHO.

Have a good night!!

Basket Press is one of my two favourite wines from Oz, but I would pass on the 2003.

Thanks for the advice - I had heard the 03 was ok, appreciate the tip!

Recommend the 99 over the 03?

Most definitely. Or ideally the 98, 06, 04 or 02. In that order I'd suggest (not had the 06, but had the rest recently, and others rave about 06).

Cheers. Have yet to brave the auction circuit, will be doing so soon - can't keep paying bottle shop premiums for back-vintage wine!

Just some odds and ends from auctions:

3 2002 Seppelt Chalambar
1 2006 Hurley Estate Pinot Noir
2 1996 Tahbilk Marsanne
2 2007 Forest Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
3 2000 Tardieu-Laurent Guy Louis CdR

These are the first wines I have bought at auction (which I have found to be a fairly seamless process), so I'm really looking forward to drinking some of the older wines over the coming weeks.

The 2007 Forest Hill Cab is a cracker, still got 3 left and they will not be touched for some time. Elegance in a bottle.

2x 2010 Seville Estate Dr McMahon 2010 Shiraz

4 x 2003 Bremerton Old Adam Shiraz - Very nice drop, brought one at Baragin, really liked it, got 3 more for "now-ish/soon" drinking.

Another Vintec "30 bottle" fridge - this time 'e' version with electronic temp display.

Haven't bought any new wine, both fridges & the cellar shelves are full - down to 345 bottles, finally no boxes sitting on the floor of the cellar!

I only had one bottle left of the cab, so I was pretty happy to be able to pick up the two mentioned above. Like yours they will be kept in the cellar for at least another four years.

1994 Wendouree Shiraz Malbec. Never had a Wendouree before, and saw this in a cellared items list at the local. I know very little about 90s vintages, ageability of Wendouree and Shiraz-Malbec blends etc.

Anyone had this before, or have any information for me?

Went a bit Birko yesterday, but thought that I had better grab a few more '09s before they disappear. Can anyone guess which year our daughter was born in?

Travis, good luck with the de Fieuzal...I have a 100% record of corked wines from this producer...

Some more 2012 Rieslings for me: Pikes and Petaluma. I understand stocks are getting low at many producers...but the '13's should be good too!
Oh, and a box of Story Tinkers 2012. Cracking wine...needing bottle age.

So, the weekend home in Newcastle:

Went to Tyrrell's to try the Vat 94 SGM - was pleasantly surprised - very dry, but nice intense fruit flavours, and not the candied/creamy sweetness I haven't liked about traditional GSM blends. Helped that the M was Malbec I think - I don't know enough about the differences to say for sure. My first tasting in the members room too, and the experience was great - relaxed, friendly and personable. Purchases:
3 x 2012 Vat 94 Shiraz Grenache Malbec
3 x 2012 Vat 1 Semillon
3 x 2012 Vat 63 Chardonnay Semillon
2 x 2010 Vat 9 Shiraz (for my brother)
1 x 2010 Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet
1 x 2011 Vat 8 Shiraz Cabernet

Also, as a square up for the Vat 9, my brother bought me a bottle of 99 Rockford Basket Press from [store name withheld]. A great start to a day that ended with the drinking of an 07 Lovedale, 94 Wendouree Shiraz Malbec and a 98 John Riddoch.

Write-ups for both events to go up on my website over the next week or so.
