Maverick (Barossa Valley)-tasting in Sydney

Post by Attila »

Tasting it last year for the first time I became a huge fan of Maverick.
Very solid and superbly balanced wines. This year the premium Greenock Rise Shiraz provided the magic. 'Twins' is their cheaper label.

2007 MAVERICK 'Twins' Eden Valley Chardonnay

Beautiful structure and freshness. Burgundy style. Restrained, focussed and very fine. Varietal and complex. Lovely Eden Valley chardonnay.
93 pts AUD $25

2007 MAVERICK 'Twins' Barossa Shiraz

Silky and delicious. Lot’s of interest and charming character. Juicy and very drinkable. Smooth.
93 points AUD $25

2006 MAVERICK Greenock Rise Barossa Valley Shiraz

Mark my words: A stunning and world class Barossa Shiraz, up there with the finest. Perfectly balanced, beautifully concentrated, rich and decadent with superb complexity and character.
A rare find indeed. Whoa! Just delicious!
96 points. At AUD $50 it is still a bargain.
Find it. Buy it. Superb. Now to 10 years.

Thanks Attila, very interesting. I've not heard of these wines before, but now I'm interested. Were these the only wines of their range that you tasted? Have you tried the Trial Hill Vineyard Shiraz, or the Greenock Rise GSM, or the Twins GSM? And, since I'm not really familiar with your scoring/ranking system, do you think the Twins Shiraz represents good value for money at $25? (From your tasting note it would seem so ...)

Sorry for all the questions! Cheers, F.
