TN: 2002 Noon Eclipse

Post by markg »

I had the message from the missus last night - Takeway, she was too busy to prepare a meal (Jeez, women are slack, lounge around the house all day then say they don't have time to cook a meal... ).

Thai food was the vote. I wanted, no...NEEDED...a bottle of red with my meal!

Somewhere I heard that grenache and alcohol were a good choice to have with Thai ? Hmmmm....Noons of course ! I just happened to have a bottle of the 2002 Eclipse on hand so I whipped out the cork and poured a couple of glasses.

Yum, it actually went quite well with the salty flavours of soy sauce and with the Pud Thai we ordered.

I really like this vintage of Eclipse, I reckon it would have to be the most outstanding vintage of recent years. The alcohol is present in big doses (14.9% or 15.9%, I can't remember) but it is more submerged this year and not as noticible and is more integrated in with the fruits and very, very drinkable. It was a dark, satin purple color with a nose of sweet black fruits and liquorice. When swirling it in the glass, it leaves a thick layer of glycerol (or is it alcohol) wherever it passes. When it gets in the mouth it is full bodied with layers of fruit, liquorice, cherry and a hint of white pepper, lingering on the tastebuds for minutes afterwards... Top Stuff - Thanks Drew.
Cheers
