September 2026 Purchases

Post by Chuck »

6 x Mitolo 2021 Serpico McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon. Made in the Amarone style with grapes picked early (with potential ABV of 13.2%) and dried on racks for 34 days before pressing and some serious new french oak. Final ABV is 14.8%. Failed export order. Sign of the times.

I'd love to try that next to the Primo Estate Moda Amarone!

It would be a good comparison. It's been a decade or two since I last tasted the Serpico, but I have picked up and drunk the odd bottle of Moda in the intervening period, so that's how I've voted.

The Primo Joseph Moda (later the Italians demanded "Amarone" be removed from the label) was a lightbulb moment for me 25+ years ago. Great fruit and structure. Too expensive for my budget these days. Website is $100. Hope the Mitolo is as good (particularly from 2021) and $24.50 from Skye Cellars if anyone is interested.

My purchases this month?

None. Absolutely NONE.

This follows a substantial 2023 Burgundy purchase in August and some impending expenses. I've had to rein in the spending accordingly.

No wonder the wine industry is in decline. :D

If you had to choose between drinking great wine or winning Lotto, which would you choose - Red or White?

6 x Bleasdale NV Langhorne Creek Sparking Shiraz. In preparation for feeding and watering the masses over the Xmas holiday season. This SS boxes well above its weight. As a NV it can be a lottery as to what you get but in the past has not disappointed.
