TN: Seppelts Mount Ida Shiraz 2012

Post by Waiters Friend »

G'day

I've had quite a few vintages of this over the years, but it's been a while since I have looked at a 2012. Decanted 2 hours before service and returned to the cellar.

Purple black in colour. Developed blackberry, blueberry with lots of cloves and mocha on the intense nose. A little eucalypt, cinnamon, and brandy- this reminds me of a rich Christmas pudding. The palate reflects the nose, and is supported by very well integrated tannins (slightly drying). The finish is quite full but there is an element of restraint, and the finish is not quite as long as the nose might have suggested.

Possibly at or near its peak, if not slightly over. No rush to drink but unlikely to improve.

Cheers
Allan
Wine, women and song. Ideally, you can experience all three at once.

Thanks for the note Allan...a favourite.
Think there's a sixer buried somewhere.
Cheers Craig

Mt Ida is great. My 02’s still going strong. Stelvin too.

I had a 2005 last month that was lovely - an auction buy that set me back all of $33. Astonishing value.
