Usually, the knife point of decent quality waiters friend and a bit of paitence.
The knife should not be to sharp as chances are you may cut yourself especially if openning it after few bottles of good wine with friends (in moderation of course) .
Vickie I had a similar problem with my recent vertical of Bass PHillip wines which are wax sealed. the best way is to simply insert the corkscrew through the wax and it comes out esy. No point trying to cut the thick wax off as you are more likely to cut yourself. Just put the corkscrew through it (and that is what the winery recommends too)!
