Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Interesting read , 40% ebitda is ridiculous, especially at the scale of TWE, they can definitely lower prices if that’s the case

Re: August 2025 Purchases

How is the 4 and 8 acre Shiraz from Tyrrell’s? Have had my eye on it Also for better or worse convinced the wife to let me get the 10x 24 grosset polish hill Rieslings. Understand it may not be the best use of points, but I get them free through credit card bonuses and don’t have any flights to upgr...

Yeah I hear you, start with the Rieslings etc first, then into Chardonnays, lighter reds Pinots an Grenache, and then finish with cabs and Shiraz’s. youngest to oldest. I’m glad I was on point with the cheese platter hahaha it seemed like the go ! That sounds like pretty good value on those auction ...

Re: August 2025 Purchases

Some good tips here Ian, I noticed some people did a first run on the whites only or rieslings only before going into the reds. I did a first pass of the key wineries I knew and liked but did full flights of each wineries offerings, probably should’ve utilised the spitoon more lol. I was washing out...

Re: August 2025 Purchases

These sand Levantine hill bottles are gargantuan and barely fit in my wine fridge. It’s annoying that the big odd shaped standish/sami odi/levantine hill don’t fit properly together! Funnily enough I can wedge in more bottles with a sorrenberg in between a standard 389 or st Henri style bottle. It’s...

Re: August 2025 Purchases

Went to my first wine tasting event, the real reviews top Australian wineries event. Was interesting, although I don’t think I did it properly as all the wines started to taste the same after a while, and after tasting 15 wineries 4-5 wines each I was pretty trollied 😅 The ones that stood out were L...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Had a 2012 seppelts show sparkling Shiraz over the weekend, was a great bottle- quite different. Was sort of savoury, sweet, fruity, creamy. Definitely a wine intended to be shared with people. I got it out of a wildcard cd.co pack which all the wines in it have been ace thus far

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Opened a bottle of 2017 scotchman’s hill Cornelius Syrah from their spray farm vineyard in Geelong on the bellarine coast. Is really nice! Very nice aroma, very smooth, nice acidity that carries the wine. I don’t have all the descriptors and whatnot but a very nice smooth cool climate Syrah, very en...

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Having a 21 yalumba signature tonight. Quite impressed. Nice deep colour with red edges, not opaque. Probably a bit young, but a nice nose and vibrant fruit on the palate, nice and smooth drink with nothing jumping out of order. Seems pretty good !

Re: 23 Agricola ebenezer

Actually looking back, Callum said the ebenezer and the Hoffman dalliwitz are the two that are likely to need the longest cellaring and decant - this is where I’ve gone wrong. I opened it way too early and didn’t decant it enough. Feel silly now that I sort of wasted the bottle but oh well- a learni...

23 Agricola ebenezer

Hey so I recently opened a bottle of 2023 Agricola ebenezer and initially didn’t think it was that great. I want to say that I think this is more than likely related to my inexperience, but was wanting to pick the brains of some of the aficionados here. On a positive note on the nose, it definitely ...
