Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings

Thanks Craig. It was the 2019 Shiraz that really caught my attention. I have some 2019 & 2022 put aside of both reds, and also was a bit underwhelmed with a 2023 Cabernet that was recently gifted to me. I might skip that vintage and stock up a little on the 2024, as well as keep an eye open for ...

Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings

Very much agree Malcolm. A great weekend with so many good wines, and yes the 2024 Bowens were excellent. I have unfortunately drunk virtually all my 90s Menzies. I have a 1994, 1997 and a magnum of the 1999. The 1998 that we had at the pub was sensational. The 1996 that I wrote about in the 2023 m...

Re: TN: random wines from the last few months

Thanks for the notes Graeme. Not surprised with the Drumborg, think it waxes and wanes over a 10-20 year window. I had a 2012 last year...brilliant, yet as a younger wine less so. The 170 celebrations of Seppelts and the one off Arrawatta potentially diluted the vintage overall. I am not universall...

Re: 2024 Rockford Mailer

Rag arrived today, seems the Rockford crew are pretty pleased with the 2021 vintage. Prices same as last year (and think they needed to be) , largely due to bumper crop, so will make plenty of cashola. Interestingly the absolute gentleman of the Aus wine industry takes a different perspective. Noon...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer

Being a beginner in the Wendouree world, my 81 year old father-in-law who is responsible for my later in life interest in red wine says he isn't waiting 20 years to try this wine I have been "rattling on about for the last 4 years!!" So I will have to open a 2022 when my small purchase ar...

Re: Which 5 Wineries are Most Represented in Your Cellar?

Being a novice with much less knowedge and a much smaller collection: Tahbilk - have a soft spot for their history and cellar door experience, and their reds are just enjoyable to drink - 35 Wild Duck Ceek Estate - relatively new to their mailing list, reds for me and whites for the father-in-law, b...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer

A lot of wines that need to be aged are quite open when they are first bottled and then shutdown. Once the Wendouree arrives, pick a bottle and leave it standing for a few days to get over the travel shock and then open . If it’s difficult to drink, put the cap on and try again either later the sam...

Re: 2024 Wendouree Mailer

I’m struggling to transition from someone who drinks their Wendouree mature to someone who also drinks them young. My 20 year rule still in play and had my first 2001 Cabernet Malbec last night. Usual routine. Decanted into a small decanter and after about 30 min a bouquet emerged. Re-poured back i...

WDC Yellow Hammerhill Shiraz Malbec 2022. This is superb, like a silky cuddly blanket generous fruit, great depth, Malbec really brings everything together, and the 5% Cabernet gives a nice freshness. Long palate, finest tannins, super smooth and carries the 15.2% easily. A definite nod to Tony Bra...
