Re: TN: Capel Vale “The Scholar” Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
Yes, I finished off my last 2007 of this some three years ago. Lots of graphite, which I associate with great Margaret River cabernet.

Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight
Ordered and drank a 2014 Mount Langi Ghiran Langi Shiraz at Settlers Tavern down at Margaret River - for about the same price as buying it from a shop. To say it was superb is an understatement. One of the best bottles of Shiraz I have tasted, Grampians shiraz being so much more subtle and refined t...

Trying to source some Produttori Barbaresco, as I ordered a 2015 bottle in a restaurant last week and it was fabulous! Apparently the 2021 vintage is very good.

Re: 2025 Wendouree Mailer
I’m still waiting, but only been on the list 10 years, red crayon. Last few years haven’t really received much of anything I ordered. First 6 or 7 years I was lucky to get everything on my 18 bottle order, quite confused about the whole process. My credit card has finally been hit for about 70% of ...

Re: August 2025 Purchases
People say the best value is in flight upgrades for value for points but qantas just halved the value of them all which is no good ! Not really. The value dropped by about 20%, and they increased their "carrier charges" somewhat - which shouldn't exist in the first place, but the customer...

Seriously? Surely you would just address it to Clare, as usualJamieAdelaide wrote: ↑Fri Jul 04, 2025 3:26 pm Urgent! I’ve bought an Australia Post express envelope and it asks the traditional place name.
Does anyone know the aboriginal name for Wendouree?

Re: TN: Faber Reserve Shiraz 2016
Hi Allan Thanks, I enjoy your notes on these old and not so well known wines. You do seem to have a soft spot for some of the Swan Valley wineries - I don't get up there much myself, but should do so more often (especially since my brother lives up at Aveley). So which Swan Valley cellar doors would...

Ah yes, I noticed they now have a Siding Shiraz, so that solves the mystery for me. I might buy a couple and see if it is as good as it was under the white label Shiraz.

Pulled out a 2008 Wynns Coonawarra White Label Shiraz last night to share with the kids, for which I paid the princely sum of $12 in 2010. Still dark ruby coloured and very smooth. Can't beat the value for money on this old quaffer, but sadly I don't think they still make it.

Don't know this wine - it seems to be their premium single-vineyard red, only made occasionally. Seems you can't buy wines via their website though - a bit backward these days?

Drank a 2010 at Balthazar the other night. Apart from being one of the most affordable drops on an outrageously expensive wine list (though still pricey), it was also beautifully smooth and balanced.

Re: Torbreck labels
The Struie is probably their best value and reliable straight shiraz, at less than $50. It's a few levels above the entry-level Woodcutters, and nowhere near as expensive as the supposed premium shiraz' in the range. But like all big and bold Barossa shiraz, it needs a good 10 years or more to matur...

Looks so dark it is almost black! I love these dark brooding Spanish wines, many of which are priced reasonably compared to their French cousins. But don't expect to be able to drive home!

If I read another post about old Leeuwin or Giaconda for chrissake I will heave and go to Reddit. Just kidding. But there is a lot of very good Chardonnay out there. OK Margaret River. If the WA guys can’t come up with a top 10 just listing Margaret River wines, then they are drinking hokey craft b...

Re: Top Australian Chardonnay under $50
Flowstone makes two great chardonnays - their Queen of the Earth is world class but doesn't quite qualify for this thread (online for $55), but their standard quaffing chardonnay at $36 is a killer for the price!

2002 Craiglee Shiraz. Beautiful wine, full of life, perfect cork. Dark fruits, a little savoury and the white pepper is there. Silky smooth palate leading to fine tannins. May or may not have peaked, but a delight. There's 3 or 4 left, so might look at another. Cheers Craig I had a couple of 2004s,...

So there is now a blend of Penfolds Grange with Paul Jaboulet La Chapelle - 50% Syrah from Barossa, McLaren Vale and Clare, and 50% from the northern Rhone. ONLY $3500 per bottle. (actually, not really shocked). Good of them to tell us the blend. So why can't I just mix a bottle of 2020 Gran...

Have you tried the Flowstone chardonnay? Both their entry level and Queen of the Earth premium are fantastic in my opinion.
