Re: Right, what are we/you drinking now .. tonight

Ballycroft is great. Joe the winemaker cut his teeth at Rockford. Well priced wines...one of the few in the BV ha ha.
Great tasting CD experience. Have a few vintages. Across the road from the Greenock Tavern...great place for lunch.

Re: Redman regains the Rough Homme brand

Add Seaview, Jamiesons Run and Lindemans to the list. Plus Mildara is another on death row...the sub $10 garbage masquerading as SE Australia is a joke. 1980s TR222, TR16, Rouge Homme Cabernet and Claret, plus KS Red Ribbon Shiraz and Green Ribbon EV Riesling were our staples. Yes 1994 Rouge Homme R...

Re: Grand Cru (Perth) Tasting Group – 20 May 2026 – Cabernet Shiraz / Shiraz Cabernet

Thanks for the great notes as always Allan, you are most fortunate to have both a great venue and a great group for regular tastings in WA. Sad that we can't do same in Adelaide, with a great range of wines such as these. I'm fortunate to have about 70% of these in the cellar...so its great to have ...

Re: Australian Pinot

Its of absolutely no surprise to anyone here, but I think there's just two bottles of Ata Rangi Marlborough PN in the cellar, that someone gave to me as a gift. I have one memorable Pinot experience when I called Stephen George in about 1995 or thereabouts to come to the winery to collect my annual ...

Thanks for the note on this.
Picked up 3 each of the 2016 and 2018 vintage. Will be good to line up against Yeringberg Cabernets, MM Quintet and YY No. 1.

Re: May 2026 Purchases

12 2022 Oliver's Taranga MV Shiraz 6 2021 Petaluma Coonawarra... should be an absolute cracker! We were having a laugh Ed. Between 1982-1990 vintages KE, Cyril, Mt Ed and HoG were our house reds. We drank dozens of them, $5, $12, $12, $27 respectively. Pity Stephen Henschke abruptly stopped sensible...

Re: Stagflation buying patterns?

True Ed, Provenance can be an issue but that said if you're purchasing current release from auction, where the time frame is less than 12 months, unless the wine has been stored on top of a fridge, then I think it's a pretty safe bet. The other thing that surprises me is the culling of lines from th...

Re: Stagflation buying patterns?

Thanks Allan. Think 2023 in your neck of the woods was a very sound vintage. WA may well as be in another country as it seems you have vintage after vintage that is near perfect. Yes I agree, this aggressive cost cutting will end at some point, either though a vine pull scheme, attrition of many mor...

Re: Stagflation buying patterns?

Agree 100% with the sentiments here. I was thinking of putting the cue in the rack at 2010/12 vintages, then 2021/22, but will give 2023a miss and wander off in 2024/25...can hear the canned music now   The compounding "problem" is the current state of the Australian wine indus...

Re: TN: Cabernet-shiraz with dinner

Yes tend to agree there are some excellent Cab Shiraz options other than a $400 Caley. Wonder what Yalumba staff price is. Just picked up a few 2022 Mallea and some 2022 The Redman. One of the all time greats Wynns Centenary fetches sensible prices at auction...missed by a single bid on 2 magnums. O...

Re: TN: Cabernet-shiraz with dinner

I've been fortunate at both the Tyson Stelzler/Matthew Jukes Great Australian Red events in Adelaide to drink multiple glasses and vintages of the Caley. Even took home a couple clean-skin 2012s, when half opened bottles were given away...pity this doesn't happen anymore. Then later vintages at Coon...

Best wishes for your recovery Craig. The wine can wait until you're ready. Thanks Ian, it's been a bit of an endurance test, but the focus on recovery and healing seems to be working. Re: Adelaide Offline Dinner

Hi David, good to hear from you. I am in the process of recovering from a fairly significant illness. I haven't had a drink for 6 weeks and probably have another 6 to go. As for a 90s theme, there's a couple of bottles of Grange floating around somewhere. I had 2 dozen 90 HoG but sold the lot. I thi...

Felix, points noted. Whilst the old world commands the highest prices, not much difference to what goes on here. Many wineries in BV, HV, YV and MR ask us to bend over and don't complain  People are waking up... simply too much overpriced wine here too. A bit of a correction is needed before i...

2012 Seppelts Show Sparkling Shiraz. Third bottle so far and all have been duds. Not hard to see why it has been heavily discounted. Massive mid palate hole with an underlying bitterness masked by the dosage. This is a label I’ve enjoyed many, many times in decades gone by, but they really whiffed ...
