Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings
Darell, thanks. Bowen is one of the consistent producers, over the last decade I would look at 2010, 2012-16, 2018-19, 2021-22. 2011 was a rotten vintage as was 2017. 2020 was also difficult but Bowen was one of the better ones. I have reservations about 2023, its OK, but will be forever stuck betwe...

Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings
Very much agree Malcolm. A great weekend with so many good wines, and yes the 2024 Bowens were excellent. I have unfortunately drunk virtually all my 90s Menzies. I have a 1994, 1997 and a magnum of the 1999. The 1998 that we had at the pub was sensational. The 1996 that I wrote about in the 2023 mu...

I really should revisit Craiglee, have about a dozen vintages in the cellar...it certainly was a staple in in the 90s.
Might have to track down some of the more recent releases.

Re: October 2025 purchases
There is a Lindeman's 1940 Madeira floating around one of the auction houses. Think a bid of $200 still saw it passed in. Wonder if it's worth a punt or could be completely stuffed. Cheers Craig Hi Craig. I opened one of these maybe 10 years ago and it was stuffed so I haven’t looked at another one...

Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings
Great to see that the judges got it right this year at the Limestone Coast Wine Show.
Majella 2022 wine of show and its a cracker. Along with Parker small batch 2024 Cabernet Franc, 2022 Wynns Childs, 2021 Yalumba Menzies and a bit of love for the 2022 Lindies trio...all excellent wines.

Re: Coonawarra 2025 musings
Thanks Carl, An embarrassment of riches to be honest. There are simply so many good wines with more to come. Certainly allows anything from 2017, 2020 and likely 2023 vintage to be easily discarded. Interesting that 2-3 wineries are planning to release wines at a potentially "lower" price ...

Interesting read , 40% ebitda is ridiculous, especially at the scale of TWE, they can definitely lower prices if that’s the case A couple of recent vintages of John Riddoch floating around at $80. A reliable source informed me, TWE still making a profit (just) and said source stated third parties w...

While I don’t necessarily align with the Winefront critics’ palates, I heard they hammered the 22 BP. Anyone else yet to try it? Mike, I have never given a second thought on what a critic has said and the number of times they have got it wrong... badly wrong. Past form and pedigree holds sway, and ...

Well, here we go round again. I hope I have captured the essence of the region and the wines. An enjoyable four days with selected visits to some old favourites. Agree with all points Sean....even though it seems your post has dissappeared! If the SP gets to $2-3 I might buy a few, as on paper its a very easy fix to turn things around, firstly by shifting the spotlight away from anything exclusively Penfolds. I suspect there is enormous wastage and excess at...

Wynns 2021 Black Label Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon (13.4%). First of a 6-pack and the first BL bought since the 2012 vintage. Thought it would be way too young to open but was interested in what could be done from a great vintage. Let breath in decanter for 2 hours. Fruit was perfectly ripe, not ...

1989 Wynns BL
Cork stained 5 mm, low neck and came out in one piece.
Browning on the edges but very bright colour.
In a tertiary phase with hints of black blue fruits. Silky smooth, finishing with the faintest of tannins.
Lovely graceful old wine with plenty of interest...one left.
Cheers Craig

Re: TN: Wynns Coonawarra 'Black Label' Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Allan, thanks for the note, and between all the posters here, we probably have 40 vintages of Black label covered. I think its a 15 year minimum for any vintage, and another 15+ on top of that. I'm trying an '89 on Monday, not a great vintage, but the bottle has been well looked after, ullage is min...

Interesting, I have several vintages of Bin 51 Riesling. I was completely underwhelmed by the 2025 offering and having now tried The Merle 2025 vintage last week and some recent Crawford River's, it's blown into the weeds. If it comes on special may have another look A few bottles of 2022 Penley Est...

AJ it probably costs Pike's a bit to put these tastings on...but from what I observed many many orders began with a dozen Riesling and finished with a whole range of wines. I'm very impressed with the Vanguard. It was a very good night. Matt thanks for the endorsement of Steve B. Absolutely clear he...

2025 Merle, to be released in November, zingy racy acidity, texture almost water like, will be great with some age, will get a few. 2020 Merle, at 5 years in what I would call in a bit of a dumb phase, has gone to sleep, although the winemaker said he likes Riesling like this...needs time I reckon....

Pikes club event at the Adelaide wine centre last night. Very well attended, 250-300 punters. Steve Baraglia, chief winemaker very skilled at his craft, new releases very fruit forward but balanced structure for the long haul. 2025 yields down, quality up, significant frost in some vineyards. A mixed sixer of 2021 and 2022 Yarra Yering Number 1.
Have had my eye on these for a while now, a fair price and will be the last purchase of this label, unless of course secondary market prices are favourable

Still purple on the rim, wonderful black blue fruits, plush core leading to a firm finish. Quite primary and a delight to see wines like this develop over a couple of decades. Great drinking.
