Re: Redman regains the Rough Homme brand

Rouge Homme translates from french to Red Man. Salt of the earth guys making good wines year after year. Those other names mentioned above also bring back fond memories of my wine journey. When we arrived in Adelaide in 1990 we jumped in a car and raced for the Connawarra for a few days. Brought bac...

6 x Knee Deep 2023 Third Rule Margaret River Chardonnay. Sadly another winery that's had to throw in the towel as the wine glut worsens. Talk is world wide consumption has declined by 10% since 2020 and is at its lowest since 1960. Younger drinkers drinking less but better quality and more competiti...

Re: Stagflation buying patterns?

There is a huge world wide wine glut. Supply has been increasing for years while demand has fallen. I've heard as much as 10% decline in world demand as drinkers drink less but better quality and people moving to other forms of alcohol. I've heard there is a vine pull program in Bordeaux and suspect...

Howard Park 2013 Leston Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Decanted 3 hours prior to service. Typical MR blackberry and mulberry with well integrated oak. Powdery fine tannins. Good balance and went well with a grade 8/9 Wagyu chuck eye roll steak (reverse seared). Still a pup. Will go at least 5-10...

Re: April 2026 purchases

Those names are new to me as well, but the CW wines site gives some info, including them being based out of the old Stonehaven winery. As you say, $30 / £15 a bottle seems fair for a punt if you enjoy MV/BV shiraz. CW Wines were on a buying spree and have an ocean of wine under these brands and mor...

I remember Chianti fondly from our days in the great city. Great food and BYO was a real bonus. Celebrated there a number of times with many special wines but nowhere near the quality of yours. The semi separated section behind the main dining area could cater for around 10-12 people if IRCC

Haselgrove 2018 The Lear McLaren Vale Shiraz. From an etailer at silly prices a few years ago (compared to ambitious RRP) this is starting to develop nicely. Lovely sweet black fruits and oak treatment. All McLaren Vale. Old school shiraz that I do like but well balanced. It has a long life ahead of...

Re: Wine Cellaring re-visted ( too much wine? )

After enjoying a passive underground cellar in Adelaide for 3 decades our move to Sydney required a new direction. The Adelaide cellar got to around 800-900 bottles of mainly Australian reds and whites. A lot of cabernets and blends that could be cellared easily for the long term. Now down to around...

Ralph Fowler 2018 Mt Benson (Robe) Merlot. Ralph was winemaker at Leconfield for a decade or so and now operates this small 7ha winery. We dropped in to the small quiet cellar door around 2020 and were the only people there. This wine impressed us as did the limited range. It was a more fuller bodie...

2023 Harndorf Hill Adelaide Hills Rose. In the warmer months we do like a fresh chilled Rose but it's hard to find anything in Australia comparable to the Provence style. Continuing the trifecta theme of Coonawarra, Cabernet, and 2021. A winning bet. Can't argue with that. An underrated winery.

Wynns 2012 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. In good shape. All Coonawarra. Medium to full bodied. Still a pup and will go many more years although I'd be concerned the primary fruit may fade over time. Good balance.

Last night dinner with friends. Nice Atlantic Salmon Nicoise salad with Moet NV (nice bubbles) and a Bannockburg 2021 Geelong Pinot Noir. Nice pinot but a bit sweet for me. I'm a novice with PN. Later a De Bortoli NV Black Noble. A fortified sticky. Interesting style.

Have you considered The Tunnels wine storage at Panorama? 2 disused railway tunnels - One is about 200m long and the other about 400m long. The 200m tunnel is yet to be filled. Cool and dark but not perfect cellaring temperature. I stored wine there after we moved to Sydney in 2020. Ridiculously che...
